First person interpretation:- where the interpreter, through the character, speaks from a precise date in time. Using the character's family history as well as the social history of the chosen period, they can relay their information in an entertaining, yet realistic way.

Third person interpretation:- where the interpreter is able to provide information with the benefit of hindsight. In both disciplines the character is in costume, illustrating the language, mannerisms and social etiquette of the period.

Role playing:- is used where there is need for a visual demonstration in the use of tools or artefacts of the period. It is done in costume to illustrate the practical difficulties but contemporary language is used when relating to the audience.

Costumed guides:- they give colour and atmosphere but their language and mannerisms are contemporary. They can save as a support tier to the first person and third person disciplines.
